Desomorphine aka Krokodil is a home-cooked opiate-based drug that is reportedly up to ten-times stronger than heroin and many times cheaper. The toxic nature of the chemicals in krokodil cause users’ skin to change color, turn scaly and eventually become gangrenous. The users skin will eventually be eaten away by the chemicals in the drug which rots flesh to the bone.

The twisted mind of Leonard Lake

Leonard Lake, who killed at least 10 people with his accomplice, Charles Ng, was obsessed with the book, The Collector, which is about a man who abducts a girl and holds her captive. Lake fulfilled his fantasy of having captive sex slaves when he and Ng later abducted, tortured, and killed at least four women.

In young adulthood, Lake apparently suffered from episodes of psychosis was diagnosed with Schizoid Personality Disorder, which resulted in his discharge from the Marine Corps.

He then tried to go to school, but dropped out without even completing his first year. He reportedly joined a commune, became obsessed with the nuclear arms race and the possibility of global warfare, and went into a paranoid-type “survivalist” mode. This paranoia and theme of survivalist would continue until his death.

Lake was married twice and both women left him because of his sexually deviant demands. He liked making bondage and S&M porn and wanted his wives to join him.

Lake met Charles Ng in the early 80’s. It is not certain how they met. The couple was arrested on a firearms violation charge, and Ng was sentenced to three years in prison. In the meantime, Lake went into hiding at his ranch. It seems to be during this time that Lake’s sadistic fantasies really began to take over. He built a bunker at the ranch and stockpiled weapons. There were two hidden rooms in the bunker, one which would be used as a torture chamber, and the other was basically a cell. According to Lake’s journals, he wanted to keep sex slaves and predicting that the world would soon be destroyed by a nuclear war.

When Ng was released from prison, and returned to Lake’s ranch, the killing began. Lake avidly videotaped the torture and rape of victims, and wrote about their crimes and his thoughts in his journals.

When investigators eventually searched the house they found bloody lingerie, restraints on a four-post bed, and the torture chamber. Inside the torture chamber were tools that Lake and Ng liked to use on their victims. On the wall was a sign that said “The Miranda”, which was the name of the girl abducted in the book, The Collector.
